Know How To Overcome Depression

Tips on how to overcome depression...
There are times in a person's life where loneliness and lack of contentment is experienced. Depression is a state where an individual feels bored and sad. This feeling can be disturbing especially when a person seems so low and cannot overcome the obstacles that he is experiencing.

Many have thought that this emotional problem is not that serious to worry about. Studies have proven that this state of depression can be an illness and must be treated. Some depressed people may go to a physician for a check up and consultation. It could be more advisable if the person would see a therapist.

Most depression therapists are very good in finding the reason why a person became depressed. The process in which a therapist treats depression is through emotional and psychological approach. On the other hand, a doctor will recommend patients to take antidepressant medicines. There are instances that have happened where a doctor treating a patient for depression was involved in such controversies where improper medications were applied.

An expert for depression would classify a depressed person if he shows some symptoms of significant weight loss, increase in appetite, loss of agility, or weight gain because of excessive eating. Others who are depressed may also encounter problems in sleeping or insomnia, over sleeping, decrease of sexual interest, and the lack of interest in lifestyle activities.

Some indications of depression may also come in a more emotional approach like the feeling of sadness and boredom, the feeling of being a useless individual, the feeling of guilt to oneself, the feeling of being undecided to some simple decisions, and the decrease of the ability of the mind to think and concentrate. The most frightening symptoms of depression may come if a person is always thinking of his death or an individual wants to commit suicide.

Here are some ways to deal with depression in a personal approach:

1. A person must force himself to go outside. Do not even bother if the climate is not that good. Try to have a walk outside, read a book, or even try to write a poem. This can be an effective idea to overcome the depression rather than staying in the room alone.

2. It is always better if there are people that will support the person in depression. It is recommended that a person seeks for a friend or a companion while he is still in the stage of recovering depression. If the individual is not used to this kind of therapy, the Internet should be a very good resort to find ways how to find ways to treat this kind of illness. It could be a little awkward to find some other people who are experiencing depression, but there is the possibility that there are others out there that can relate.

3. It is advisable for the individual to write what he feels at the moment. If there are no friends to tell what the problems are, he may try writing about the feeling so that the hatred or sadness will subside. Holding the feeling can just add more depression.

4. Meditation can be a good tool to overcome the depression. Deep breathing and good relaxation can relieve anxiety and pressure that may lead to depression.

Depression can be treated if the person realizes that he must also do his part of overcoming the illness. If these recommended ways do not show any development to let go of depression, then it should be better if the person seek the help of a doctor or a therapist.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are two separate conditions.
The exact relationship between the two is still under
Study.

Even though it’s very common to find them together,
any direct relationship to each other has yet to be
found. For the time being, the relationship between
Anxiety and depression are often referred to as
comorbidity.

Meaning unrelated, but co-existing. Their symptoms can
Overlap each other, which can make the initial
diagnosis of either condition difficult. The symptoms
can also be completely independent of each other.

A study by the National Comorbidity Survey reported
that 58% of patients suffering major depression also
exhibited lifetime anxiety. Agitated depression and
apathetic depression is most often referred to when
supporting these results.

Both of these depressed states exhibit anxiety with
heightened restlessness, suicidal thoughts or
tendencies and a general sense of dread. While
agitated depression includes symptoms of nonclinical
and nonspecific panic, apathetic depression doesn’t.

Even mild anxiety symptoms are being found to have an
impact on the course depression takes in individuals.

A study at the University of Pittsburg showed patients
diagnosed with depression and also suffering lifetime
panic symptoms experienced significant delays in the
success of their treatments.

These patients also exhibited additional problems when
facing the resumption of their normal activities.

There are theories regarding the possibility that
depression acts similar to anxiety in attempting to
encourage avoidance of potentially harmful situations.
Anxiety tries to avoid and prepare for physical
danger, while depression tries to avoid emotional or
psychological danger.

Toxins: Why A Major Source of Inflammation!

Have you ever walked down the cleaning aisle at the supermarket? What was your experience? I hate it! In fact, I completely avoid that aisle. If I need something, I hold my breath, quickly get what I need and beat a hasty retreat from that toxic soup.

The soaps, bleaches, softeners and fragrances in the cleaning aisle are all in sealed containers. Yet, they still give off an overwhelming, nauseating stench that may make a person sick for hours. What happens when we bring those containers home? They continue to give off toxins. Only now, the containers are open and the process happens 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Our toxic environment

In North America, we are inundated with toxins every moment of every day. Pollution in our air, water and food challenges our ability to detoxify and adapt. Worse still, the place we think of as a haven from stress -- our home -- is likely the most toxic environment we face in our daily routines. Toxins released from household chemicals, fabric, carpet, fragrances and pesticides seep into our body in tiny amounts even as we sleep.

Toxic waste, like barnacles on the hull of a ship, drags us down. It slows the efficiency of our mitochondria (the energy-producing engines inside our cells). Noxious chemicals create fatigue, headaches, digestive disturbances and moodiness. Eventually, toxins become the focus for inflammation.

Inflammation

Your body uses acute inflammation to try to neutralize toxicity. Think about your reaction to a bee sting: redness, swelling, heat and pain. This is not caused by the toxins in the bee venom. It is the reaction of your body as it tries to eliminate the toxicity:
  • Redness is the increase in blood supply to bring in immune system antibodies and remove the neutralized venom.
  • Swelling is the lymphatic fluid that dilutes the concentrated poison while providing proteins for repair of the tissue damaged by the toxins.
  • Heat comes from immune system activity as it battles the invading contaminant.
  • Pain causes us to guard that area from further damage.
Chronic inflammation occurs when the toxins are not completely removed from an area. A good example of this may be found in simple lawn chemicals, like fertilizers and pesticides. Certain fertilizers are potassium-based. Potassium is important for human health. When we are exposed to these fertilizers, our cells may accept the potassium along with the toxic "attachments." Your immune system will constantly attack these contaminated cells until it destroys them. Clusters of diseases like Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis have been linked to these fertilizers.

Home sweet home -- isolate and insulate

Neutralizing toxins in the body begins with isolating ourselves from chemical exposure. We must be diligent if we are to protect our family from toxic overload. Chemicals should be stored out of the living area in a place that is well-ventilated. This is especially true if there are children in the home, as developing brains are up to 10 times more likely to suffer damage from toxins than an adult nervous system.

Insulating ourselves against toxic exposure is equally important. Two nutrient classes shine when it comes to protection from pollution:
  • Essential fatty acids -- Many of the toxins we face are fat-soluble. We need "clean" fats in abundance to displace toxic fats in our brain, liver and other regions of our body.
  • Antioxidants -- Antioxidants neutralize toxins and Bioflavonoids found in Nopal figs have two added benefits over standard antioxidants:
    • They drain away the toxin from an affected area
    • They shore up the cell membrane to help promote healing.
Bioflavonoids turn out to be our best tool in combating the causes of inflammation: toxins, stress, injury and nutrient deficiency. Use this excellent tool liberally to help you resist the increasing onslaught of toxins both inside and outside of our home sweet home!

The tell-tale symptoms of depression

People who may be suffering from depression or manic disorders actually exhibit or show each and every kind of symptom of depression that doctors will tell you that depressed people have. Sometimes it’s actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help one’s self or others who are suffering from depression for that matter.

There are actually a lot of symptoms of depression that depressed people may actually posses but they don’t have to suffer from each and every one of them before you actually help them get diagnosed and be treated for this illness. Also, since symptoms of depression actually vary, the time of their "attacks" varies as well.

Here are some common examples of symptoms of depression:

Prolonged period of sadness or not feeling up to it,  people who are always feeling not in the mood, who’d rather mope around the house and feel sorry for one’s self is the best example for this symptom of depression.

Feels hopeless, perennial pessimist: speaking of feeling sorry for one’s self, another common symptom of depression is when a person actually feels like he/she has nothing to look forward to in his or her life. As for being the perennial pessimist, those who show this symptom of depression are usually very negative about things, again, the feeling of hopelessness comes in to mind.

Guilt-driven, loss of self-worth and helplessness: other symptoms of depression that can be easily seen on people who prefer to mope around all day long are these. Whenever a person feels so guilty over something, that actually makes one a very sad person who feels like he or she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Thus, the loss of self-worth, if that person feels like he or she isn’t worthy of being happy or enjoying one’s self then that’s a clear telltale symptom of depression. Helplessness also contribute to being depressed, when assuming that things won’t simply go your way, it’s already a clear saying that you have absolutely no hope in your body at all.

Isn’t interested in finding or taking pleasure; just dropping the hobbies as well as the other things that one used to enjoy: this telltale symptom of depression just shows how depressed a person can be, if one is actually too sad to take pleasure even in the very things that one loves then that person is seriously lacking something, rather, that person might well have caught the depression bug.

Fatigue, always tired: people suffering from depression, since they’ve lost whatever interest in life that they may have had before are actually lacking of physical energy at all times, if one would prefer to just mope around, probably won’t even eat not get enough sleep, a depressed person may well be on their way to not just a mental illness but depression can actually be terrible for one’s physical health as well.

Having trouble concentrating, having bad memory and is indecisive: a person who is suffering from depression easily gives away this telltale symptom of depression. Wherein one’s lack of interest regarding the outside world or for just about anything for that matter can lead to that person’s inability to lose track of things and actually not be able to remember things that happened or what other people said. Lack of interest actually makes depressed people very inattentive.

There are actually more symptoms of depression that can actually help you see if a person (or yourself) needs to be brought to the doctor to get some help when it comes to depression: lacking sleep, sleeping too much or waking up at wee hours of the morning are all symptoms of depression (if it happens on a daily basis), appetite loss as well as eating too much may show one’s lack of zeal for life! Be weary of sudden weight loss or weight gain in those around you. Being suicidal, talking about death, about wanting to die is another clear indication that that person is depressed. Being restless and irritable and physical symptoms that are usually brought about by poor mental health such as headaches, digestive disorders and various body pains.
